The ViennaPhotoBookFestival is Europe’s largest festival focusing on the photo book, initiated by Anzenberger Gallery and OstLicht. Gallery for Photography. It takes place for the third time this year, on June 20 and 21, 2015 at Brotfabrik Wien. Due to the festival’s cooperation with the galleries Hilger NEXT and photon, more than 1,000 m² will be available for the 80 participating international booksellers.

Once again, a high-carat programme of events featuring lectures, conversations and panel discussions offers first-hand information on the subject of photo books.
For the third edition of the festival, we have managed to invite one of the most important protagonists of the photo book scene, the American star photographer William Klein, to give his first-ever lecture in Vienna. Klein’s distinctive black-and-white photography had a decisive influence on Japanese photo book culture during the 1960s and 1970s. Furthermore, today’s most sought-after photo book critic, Colin Pantall (UK) and the star publisher Michael Mack (UK) will impart some of their knowledge to an Austrian audience for the first time. Another programme focus this year is on the subject “Collecting Photo Books”. The prominent collectors Michel Auer (CH), Manfred Heiting (US), Gerry Badger (UK) and Andreas H. Bitesnich (AT) will participate in a panel discussion on this topic.
In addition, the following international guests will lecture on the subject of photo books: Olivia Arthur (a magnum photographer who will speak about the project ‘Inge Morath – Danube Revisited’, UK), Nicolo Degiorgis (creator of the most successful book of 2014, ‘Hidden Islam’, IT) and Ania Nalecka (one of the leading photo book designers, PL).

With the ViennaPhotoBookReview, which had its successful launch last year and will be continued this year, and given the participation of far more than twenty universities offering studies in photography all over Europe, the ViennaPhotoBookFestival has established itself as one of the most important settings for the discovery of young talent.

The familiar pleasant atmosphere including music, drinks and food welcomes you to the third edition of the ViennaPhotoBookFestival, a platform for contacts and sustainable cooperation with international publishers, artists, dealers, collectors and lovers of photo books, reaching far beyond the festival itself.

 

 

Europas größtes Festival rund um das Fotobuch, initiiert von Anzenberger Gallery und OstLicht. Galerie für Fotografie, findet heuer bereits zum dritten Mal statt, am 20. und 21. Juni 2015 in der Brotfabrik Wien. Durch die Kooperation mit den Galerien Hilger NEXT und photon, stehen weit über 1.000 m² an Ausstellungsfläche für die über 80 internationalen Bookseller zur Verfügung.

Ein hochkarätiges Rahmenprogramm mit Vorträgen, Gesprächen und Diskussionsrunden bietet auch dieses Jahr wieder Informationen aus erster Hand zum Thema Fotobuch.
Für die dritte Ausgabe des Festivals gelang es einen der bedeutendsten Protagonisten der Fotobuchszene, den amerikanischen Starfotografen William Klein erstmalig zu einem Vortrag nach Wien zu holen. Mit seiner markanten Schwarzweiß-Fotografie prägte Klein maßgeblich die japanische Fotobuchkultur der 60er und 70er Jahre. Ebenso werden der zurzeit gefragteste Fotobuchkritiker Colin Pantall (UK) sowie der Starverleger Michael Mack (UK) erstmals dem österreichischen Publikum ihr Wissen vermitteln. Ein weiterer Programmschwerpunkt des diesjährigen Festivals ist dem Thema „Fotobuch sammeln“ gewidmet. Dazu werden die bedeutenden Sammler Michel Auer (CH), Manfred Heiting (US), Gerry Badger (UK) und Andreas H. Bitesnich (AT) diskutieren.
Weiters konnten folgende internationale Gäste zum Thema Fotobuch für Vorträge gewonnen werden: Olivia Arthur (magnum-Fotografin über das Projekt „Inge Morath – Danube Revisited“, UK), Nicolo Degiorgis (mit dem erfolgreichsten Buch des Jahres 2014 „Hidden Islam“, IT) und Ania Nalecka (eine der besten Fotobuchdesignerinnen, PL).

Mit der im Vorjahr erfolgreich gestarteten ViennaPhotoBookReview, die in diesem Jahr ihre Fortsetzung findet, und der Teilnahme von weit über zwanzig Hochschulen der Studienrichtung Fotografie aus ganz Europa, hat sich das ViennaPhotoBookFestival als einer der wichtigsten Schauplätze für die Entdeckung junger Talente etabliert.

In gewohnt angenehmer Atmosphäre mit Music, Drinks and Food bietet auch die dritte Ausgabe des ViennaPhotoBookFestivals einePlattform für Kontakte und weiterführende Kooperationen internationaler Verleger, Künstler, Händler, Sammler und Liebhaber des Fotobuches, die weit über das Festival hinaus Bestand haben.
